The Hittites apparently disappeared at the hands of the Assyrian empire. It was not the first genocide, but it was the oldest with material evidence. The Hittites would be, ironically, the first to draft a "modern" peace treaty, with a pacifist will after defeating the Egyptians shortly before their devastation (Chalk and Jonassohn 2010).
