Wash , performance and objects (Flag series), 2004

Emilio Santisteban

Contemporary performance artist

Several people spilled their blood on American flags, creating stains in the shapes of dozens of territories militarily attacked by the United States of America since the 19th century. The act was replicated clandestinely in the city of Detroit (USA).

On the other hand, T-shirts printed with images of the Wash The Flag collective (Washington DC, 1991 - 2003) and the US flag are stained with human blood to form the profiles of said territories.

The action and the t-shirts make visible the moral stains to which the actions of the aforementioned American collective refer, called " Wash The Flag" and consisting of washing American flags every Flag Day (June 14) in front of the Capitol in Washington DC, in allusion to the warmongering of the United States.
